It was a bright, sunny morning in Ponyvile, and every pony, zebra, buffalo, dragon, changeling, gryphon, and more were all running to the town square; Something big was happening…and they all didn’t want to miss it. “Hey! What is going on?!” Twilight Sparkle tried to ask the galloping crowd as they ran by her, only to be knocked down and trampled a little.

Once the crowd was gone, Twilight was lying on the grass in a daze. She groaned and was suddenly helped up by a dear friend of hers.

“Golly, Twi. Ya’ll should be more careful when dere is a stampede goin’ on…” Applejack informed.

“Thank, AJ. I was just trying to find out why everypony is in such a hurry like that,” The lavender unicorn explained.

“Not sure…but it must be big,” Applejack guessed.

Suddenly, a blue coated Pegasus flew down to them and hovered in the air a bit, “Didn’t you guys hear?”

“Hear what?” The two confused mares asked.

“The Equestria Extravaganza is here!!”

The girls all gasped with excitement; The Equestria Extravaganza was something pretty much everypony in Equestria knew about, and would do anything to participate in…for the grand prize.

“Well I’ll be…the Equestria Extravaganza…” Applejack said in amazement.

“We should go check it out! Come on, girls!” Twilight smiled and galloped towards where the other ponies had gathered. Applejack and Rainbow Dash followed, wanting to see it as much as any other pony.

***********************

Twilight and the others arrived in the Ponyville town square where Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Fluttershy, Spike, and many other friends and family were listening to the host of the event announce the rules of the competition.

“Welcome ladies and gentlecolts,  pony and creature alike. Tomorrow morning, we shall be holding the auditions for those who wish to compete for the chance to win the grand prize: Performing on stage, in front of hundreds if not thousands, in Canterlot for the Elite and Royalty!”

The crowd of many creatures cheered and saw this as an opportunity to rise up and become famous; This was something that they could not pass up.

“But remember, everypony. Only one…I repeat, ONE…can win,” The host informed, “Already we have found our winners in cities to the south, north, east, and west. A total of four have gone the distance and will be performing their talents in Canterlot…and we seek one more to complete that list!!!”

The crowd cheered once more and were ready to give their best for the chance to win this spectacular prize.

“Auditions start first thing in the morning, so decide what talent of yours you are going to be showing to our judges. Be ready for tomorrow…for one of you…is going to be the final winner…of the Equestria Extravaganza!!!” With that, the host departed as the crowd of many creatures applauded and immediately ran off to prepare for the show.

“Wow…a chance to perform in front of Princess Celestia and many more ponies in Canterlot…” Twilight said as she pictured herself on stage.

“I know, darling. This could be my chance to show off my beauty and talent for designing such worthy outfits,” Rarity marveled at what could happen to her and her standing.

“This could be my chance to show off my new moves!” Rainbow said.

The girls all discussed what talent they would be performing, except for Twilight and Fluttershy. The little timid Pegasus was too afraid to be on stage like that, so she would not take part. Twilight however, had not decided on what she could do.

“So, Twilight, what are you going to do?!” Pinkie interrupted her friend’s thinking.

“What do you mean?” Twilight asked.

“Oh silly, I mean what talent are you gonna do at the auditions?”

The rest of the girls all turned to Twilight, wanting to know what she would perform in front of the judges. “Well…maybe I could do some superior magic tricks-”

“Uhh…Twilight?” Applejack pointed out to the other unicorns nearby, practicing their magical skills, “Maybe ya should pick somethin’ else…just in case.”

Twilight could see that the honest earth pony was right: There were already many unicorns planning to use their magic for the competition, “Alright…then maybe…”

“How about you sing, Twilight?” Rarity suggested, “You do have an amazing voice after all.”

The girls all agreed with Rarity and suggested the same for their best friend.

“You girls really think I should?” Twilight Sparkle asked.

They all nodded and smiled, which gave Twilight the inspiration to go with it.

“Alright, but I don’t know if my voice alone will be enough. I mean, I am sure there will be other singers participating.”

The mares all pondered on that…until one had an idea: “Umm…Twilight? Maybe you could…sing with…your boyfriend…” Fluttershy suggested nervously, hoping her friends would think it’s a good idea.

“That’s a brilliant idea, Fluttershy darling,” Rarity supported.

The others thought so too, which brought a smile to her lips, “Thank you, everypony.”

“But…there is one problem with that…” Spike spoke up to question all this, “Isn’t he currently out on a diplomatic mission elsewhere?”

The mares, hating to admit it, agreed with Spike. Ever since Courageous Heart was made the Ambassador of Equestria, he was now tasked with handling the peace with other cities in Equestria…as well as other kingdoms across the world.

“That’s really not a problem at all, Spike, “Twilight informed him, “He is actually coming home tomorrow…so he and I can practice before we will have our turn on stage.”

The girls were thrilled to hear this and wished Twilight, and each other, the best. Soon, they all ran or flew home to begin practicing their special talent that they would perform for the chance to win the Equestria Extravaganza.

**************************************

At the Golden Oaks Library, Twilight had chosen a song that would be perfect for both her and Courageous to sing. She blushed a little when she read the lyrics; This was a love song, and something that would describe their relationship with such beautiful words and music. Spike noticed Twilight blushing and went back to preparing his special talent, one he had not shown Twilight before, for the competition.

Twilight began to practice her part of the song. The way she sang was so amazing, that the few ponies that passed by her house loved the sound of her voice. Some even thought that she may win…and ran home to practice harder.

“I sure hope Courageous will be home in time for us to rehearse before we go on stage…” Twilight hoped as she looked over the lyrics.

“I’m sure he will, Twilight,” Spike reassured her as he went off to the next room to practice.

“Thanks Spike,“ She smiled, but then felt the need to ask,“ By the way, what are you going to do for the competition?”

“Juggle,” He answered.

“Juggling?” She questioned, “That’s it?”

“Yeah…” He smiled and said, “…but a special kind. You will see.”

Twilight smiled and was looking forward to that. With Spike in the other room, she returned to singing her lines, and would continue for as long as possible…until she was ready for bed.

**************************************

Morning had come and everypony rose early, gathered what they needed, and raced on over to where the auditions were taking place. They had to hurry, for only up to one hundred would be allowed to perform this year, and it was first come…first serve. Twilight Sparkle got up the minute she heard the galloping of the other ponies outside. She jumped out of bed, got herself ready, and joined the rest…with Spike sleeping on her back along the way.

“Come on, Spike…wake up!” She ordered her little dragon assistant, “We need to get a spot in the auditions, and I am NOT doing it for you!”

Spike yawned and moaned, “Fine…” He got up and sat properly on his friend’s back, “That better?”

“Yep,” She smiled and continued to run towards her destination.

Upon arriving, there was already an enormous line with ponies and more signing up for a spot in the auditions. From what Twilight could tell, there was not yet a hundred in front of her, so she and Spike had a chance.

“The line is pretty long, Twilight. You sure we are going to make it?” Spike asked, with a hint of worry in his voice.

“I sure hope so, Spike. I would hate to pass up an opportunity like this.”

The two agreed and waited for their turn…which would take quite a while. But while waiting, Twilight noticed her friends ahead of her…and some had already received their numbers to when they would go.

******************************************

After nearly half an hour of waiting and moving up slowly at a time, Twilight and Spike made it to the booth, where a mare was sitting: “Name?” She asked.

“Twilight Sparkle,” The young mare answered, and was given her number shortly after.

Twilight took her number and stepped out of line, clearly excited that she made it. She looked at her number and it said…

“100? I’m number 100?!” She exclaimed.

“Really?” Spike asked. He looked and saw that she was not kidding, “Huh…how about that…’

“What did you get, Spike?”

He looked at his and answered, “42.”

Twilight could not believe it: She got the highest number, which means she would be performing last.

“It’s not that bad, Twilight. At least that gives Courageous enough time to get home to practice with you.” Spike reassured his friend.

You’re right, Spike. Thanks,” She smiled and hugged her dear little dragon. Afterwards, the two made their way to their seats behind the stage, where they would wait to be called on. The two were very excited, and with their friends sitting right next to them, this was going to be even more exciting.

Once everypony got their numbers and found a place to sit and wait, many ponies and creatures were gathering in the front of the stage to watch the talents of those who wanted to show of their talents for the chance of performing in Canterlot. Soon, once the crowd was gathered and all was set, the host came out onto the stage to welcome everypony. Once he did, the crowd of ponies and more cheered and whistled excitingly.

“Welcome welcome, my friends!” He smiled as he spoke over the microphone he levitated with his magic, “Are you all ready for some exciting entertainment…right here in your own home town?!!”

The ponies stomped their hooves and cheered.

“I can’t hear you!!”

They cheered louder and stomped harder.

“That’s more like it!!” The host smiled at the crowd as they continued to cheer for this thrilling event that was about to start. Once the crowd quieted down, he continued, “Well, we’ve got an exciting show for everypony today, but before we can start, let us welcome…our judges!!”

The crowd was in an uproar of applause once more as three ponies made their way down the walkway to their seats at the booth, which sat just in front of the stage. They were all well dressed and waving at everypony as they walked by. Once they were at their seats, the host introduced them, “Allow me the pleasure to introduce the three ponies that will be deciding which act is worthy of performing live in the city of Canterlot: T.N. Crumpets…Shaz Metalica…and Spicken Span!!”

T.N. Crumpets was a gray coated earth pony with a dark brown mane and had a cup and saucer for a cutie mark . He wore a blue suit and cuffs, and sat on the left side of the booth, facing the stage. He was not smiling, for he was known to rarely do so…unless he sees something he likes.

Shaz Metalica was a beautiful red coated unicorn with a dark red mane. She had a microphone for a cutie mark, and wore a pretty white dress with some golden rings. She was known to be very sweet, and only harsh when needed. She was also the wife of a famous rock star.

Spicken Span was shady brown Pegasus with a lighter brown goatee and tail; he had no mane for he was bold, and loved being so. He wore a block shirt and had a bar of soap for a cutie mark. He was known for disliking germs and would always carry a bottle of hoof sanitizer with him.

As the crowds cheered for the three famous judges of this event, the host nodded, “Well, I say let us get this show underway. Remember, each contestant gets a maximum of five minutes to perform. If the judges dislike the act, then they will give their answer with the dreaded buzzers,” the Host explained as he turned to the judges, “Will you three please give the audience a demonstration?”

The three nodded and hit the large buttons in front of them, giving off a loud buzzing sound with a great big NO sign glowing on the front of the booth.

“Thank you.” He turned back to the audience, “Remember, none of our participants will want that. If they get so much as one buzz, that will decrease their chances of making it to the top four before deciding the winner.”

Once the audience, and the participants in the back, understood, the host waved his hoof, “Alright then. Without further adieu, let the Equestria Extravaganza….the final auditions…BEGIN!!!” The theme song began to play for all to hear, as the audience applauded and were ready to see the hundred back stage perform their talent for all to see.

**************************************

The first up was Pinkie Pie. She walked onto the stage, wearing a whole bunch of instruments on her back.

T.N. Crumpets was not impressed at all, but spoke first, “And what is your name?”

“Hi, I’m Pinkie Pie!” The happy pink pony answered.

“I see. Well, Pinkie Pie, what are you going to do for us today?”

“I’m going to play ten different instruments for you, silly!” She said with glee.

T.N. was still not impressed, but Shaz and Spicken were…a bit. They nodded and let her start.

Pinkie Pie began to play the banjo, harmonica, drums, trumpet, and six others all at once. Though the audience cheered, the judges were not completely impressed…at least T.N. was not.

After twenty seconds of listening to Pinkie play, T.N. hit his buzzer. Pinkie quickly stopped, and the audience booed at T.N. , but he ignored them.

“You didn’t like it?” Pinkie asked, a little saddened by this.

“Look, here’s the thing: while that IS an amazing talent, I just don’t think it is Extravaganza material. Sorry, but it’s a NO from me,” He admitted.

Pinkie Pie felt sad, but the other judges had kinder comments:

“I think you have amazing talent, Pinkie Pie. Don’t quit just because of him,” Spicken said, spitting his tongue out at his fellow judge…who rolled his eyes.

“Thank you so much for the performance, darling,” Shaz complimented.

Pinkie felt better and walked off the stage, as the audience cheered for her one last time.

Once she was gone, Shaz turned to T.N. ,”Well that was a little harsh on the little pony.”

“I’m just being honest. I could have gone to the circus and seen the same exact thing.” He said harshly.

The participants heard all that happened, and started to worry a little to how they may be judged when they go out on stage. It was too late to back out and soon the next one was called.

************************

One by one, the ponies, zebras, dragons, or others went up on the stage to show their best talent to the judges and audience…and one by one…many were booed for their uninteresting talents by the audience, and buzzed off by the judges. Many even ran off the stage crying, but what happened way how the auditions worked.

Eventually, each of the Mane six would have their turn:

Applejack went on and did her lasso moves for everypony to see. While the T.N. and Shaz were impressed, Spicken was not due to him seeing the very same in Appleloosa…as well as getting some dirt on him in the process.

“You have quite a good talent, if not cliché,” Spicken admitted, “But since the winner of the south did some amazing tricks like yours, I don’t think having another would seem right, so…I’m gonna have to say no.”

Applejack understood, but walked off proudly, knowing she did a great job and the audience loved her.

When it was Spike’s turn, he did some juggling with fire for the audience’s entertainment. His tricks and quick moves helped him receive praise from not only the audience, but from the judges as well.

Once he was done, they all cheered for him, and believed he may be one of the few that might make it to the finals.

Rainbow Dash’s turn finally came, and she flew out onto stage and was going to perform her awesome moves for the judges.

She began with a few loops and was going to perform her greatest move: The Sonic Rainboom. However, before she could start, the three judges buzzed her.

“What?!!” She was in shock.

“We’ve seen it!” They all said together.

Rainbow Dash growled, but despite the judges throwing her off so quickly, the audience cheered for Rainbow, for they still thought she was an awesome pony; Even her little sister, Scootaloo, was cheering her on, whiling booing the judges.

This made her feel better as she flew off.

Eventually, it was Rarity’s time to shine on stage.

She walked onto the stage, wearing a beautiful dress, embedded with diamonds and gems of many kinds; She had just recently made it for the competition, and she wanted to show off her beauty and love of fashion for everypony to see.

Shaz Metalica was in awe to what she saw; She loved the dress so much, she wanted to buy one just like it. However, her moment was interrupted when T.N. and Spicken hit their buzzers.

Rarity gasped and wondered why they would do such a thing.

T.N. and Spicken admitted, while they loved the dress, it was just not what they were looking for…and this was a talent show, not a fashion show. They gave her their answers and said no.

She felt like crying, but Shaz interrupted, “Don’t you listen to these old fools. You have grace, beauty, and an amazing talent for designing. Once this is over, I may stop by to request a dress much like yours.”

This made the little white unicorn very happy; While she may not be moving on, she was honored to have a famous pony want to purchase a dress from her. Rarity smiled, bowed and walked off the stage. Soon, the girls all gathered and were proud of each other for giving it their best. While they may have lost, the praise they received from the audience, plus a judge or two, helped encourage them to try again next time.

************************

It was now evening, and the ninety-nine participants had come and gone. Most had been buzzed off, and were looked like they would not be making it to the finals. So far there were three that were the most likely ones…and only one remained. “Go on, Twilight. It’s your turn,” Spike tried to push her up the stairs and onto the stage.

“I…I can’t, Spike,” Twilight admitted while she tried to stop herself from moving forward, “Courageous is still not here. I am not ready!” After all those hours, Her coltfriend had still not returned home in time to practice. Spike noticed that, but they soon heard her name getting called out.

“Twilight, you have to do it. I mean, It’s just a song. I’m sure you can sing it alone,” Spike suggested.

Twilight Sparkle still felt unsure, “I don’t know, Spike…” She muttered as she was now on stage, and it was too late to move back. The crowd was already cheering and she had to move out.

“Um…Hi…” She said nervously into the microphone.

“Hello. What is your name, sweetie?” Shaz asked.

“Twilight…Sparkle…”

The judges knew that name well and gave her an approving nod, “So, Ms. Sparkle. What are you going to perform for us tonight?”

She gulped and answered, “I’m going to…sing.”

“Well, good luck then,” T.N. Crumpets said as he and the other two sat back and watched.

She nodded and once the music started playing, Twilight cleared her throat and began:

“All those days watching from the windows, All those years outside looking in,”
“All that time never even knowing just how blind I’ve been,”
“Now I’m here, blinking in the starlight,”
“Now I’m here, suddenly I see,”
“Standing here, it’s all so clear,”
“I’m where I meant to be!”

The entire audience was in an uproar of cheering and applause for the little unicorn and her amazing voice. Even the judges, every one of them, smiled and clapped for her. Soon, the music picked up and Twilight sang the next verse:

“And at last I see the Light, and it’s like the fog has lifted,”
“And at last I see the Light, and it’s like the sky is new,”
“And it’s warm and real and bright,”
“And the world has somehow shifted.”

The ponies continued to cheer for Twilight, but they settled down a little so they could hear her better. Already, she was doing so wonderful, and even the judges loved her.

“All at once, everything looks different,”
“Now that I…see you.”

As she finished the verse, the audience awaited to see what would happen next. This was usually the part where another would join in to sing. But…there was no other partner to be seen.

As the music continued, Twilight knew she would have to sing the part that was meant for her boyfriend, but he was nowhere to be seen…and the judges were getting a little confused, if not disappointed. The next verse was coming up, and it looked like Twilight was loosing the will to continue.

The judges loved her voice, but sadly it looked like they would have no choice but to buzz her out. But just as they were about to reach for their buzzers, the noticed a small flash of Light appear on stage. The crowd gasped then cheered for whom they now saw standing on stage, right behind Twilight.

Twilight felt the Light behind her and turned to see who it was…and her heart quickly felt joy when she saw the brown stallion she loved so much on stage, with a microphone in his hoof.

She wanted to say his name, but then the music was reaching his part. He held the mic up and sang:

“All those days chasing down a daydream, All those years living in a blur,”
“All that time never truly seeing, Things, the way they were.”
“Now she’s here, shining in the starlight,”
“Now she’s here, suddenly I know,”
“If she’s here, it’s crystal clear,”
“I’m where I meant to go!”

With that, Twilight Sparkle raised her mic and stood face to face with her coltfriend, looking into each other’s eyes as they sang the next verse…together:

“And at last I see the Light, and it’s like the fog has lifted,”
“And at last I see the Light, and it’s like the sky is new,”
“And it’s warm and real and bright,”
“And the world has somehow shifted.”

“All at once, everything looks different,”
“Now that I see you.”

“Now that I…see…you.”

Twilight and Courageous looked into each other’s eyes and blushed lightly, so happy to be here on stage, singing something from their hearts to the others. They smiled and sang the final verse:

As the song and music came to an end, the two gently nuzzled each other’s cheeks and smiled as they heard the ponies and more in the audience rising to applaud the two for their amazing performance. Even the judges rose, smiled, and clapped their hooves for the couple.

Twilight and Courageous bowed and were thankful to everypony for loving their performance.

Once the applauding stopped, the couple stood at the edge of the stage, awaiting the judges decisions. “That was…by far…the best I have heard this entire year. You two sang the song so beautifully,” Shaz praised.

Spicken went next, “That was…such a surprise for me! I never expected for you to have such an amazing voice, Twilight.”

“Thank you…” She smiled.

“As for you, Courageous. You have an amazing voice as well, plus your entrance surprised me even more. You two did wonderful, hooves down.”

“Thank you so much,” Courageous thanked.

T.N. was the last to go, “So, Twilight, you come out on this stage, nervous like any other pony, and you sing such an astonishing song, that made me smile…for the first time in a long time.”

The crowd cheered and applauded, then slowly quieted down.

“And just when I thought it was about to go downhill…Courageous shows up and saves the day. Whether that was intended or not, I still say, I could not believe quite what I was hearing, I really couldn’t. You both have a very natural given talent, and it is the kind of reason we like doing this.”

Courageous and Twilight smiled and almost felt like crying when all three judges praised their performance, and the entire crowd of ponies showed how much they loved it too. After that, the judges all gave them three Yeses and gave them one last applaud as the two walked off the stage.

“I…almost thought you weren’t going to make it, Courageous,” Twilight said.

“I almost thought the same too. But, when I felt that you were in trouble, I finished quickly and the Light allowed me to return home just in time to-”

He was interrupted when she kissed his lips. He blushed and kissed her back.

Once it ended, she smiled warmly at him, “Thank you so much, my dear Courageous.”

He smiled and was about to speak when she cut him off, “But don’t you EVER do that to me again! Do you have any idea how afraid I was going on that stage thinking you weren’t going to show?!”

Courageous sighed and had a feeling he was going to be in for a long lecture from her once this was over.

*************************************

An hour after the judges, along with the audience, voted on which ones would be in the top four, the Host came out and called them onto the stage. The final four were: Spike, for his incredible juggling act; Twilight and Courageous for their love song; Zecora, for her mystical performance; and the Mayor, for her magic tricks without the use of magic.

“Alright, everypony, settle down…so I can announce our winner!” The host said as the applauding ponies quieted down, anxious to hear who they voted for.

“First off, let me just say, it has been a pleasure to be here, watching everypony perform their best talents for us to see and enjoy!”

As the clapping returned, the host continued, “But now…it has come down to these four, who out of one hundred, have done an outstanding job…and one of them is going to be performing in Canterlot tomorrow night with the other four winners!”

The host walked down to where the judges sat and took the letter with the final decision from them and walked back up. The four on stage were nervous and felt their hearts beating at a fast rate as the moment of truth was coming up.

“I have here the votes, from the judges and all of you out there in the audience. Let’s see who you voted for as your winner tonight!”

He opened the letter and was just as surprised to see the results. He read them out loud for all to hear.

“In fouth place: Zecora!”

Everypony cheered for her as she took a bow.

“In third place: The Mayor!”

She smiled and took a bow as the ponies cheered for their elected leader of their town.

“Now…the moment you have been waiting for: The winner of the Equestria Extravaganza auditions in Ponyville, and one of the five stars that will be performing their special talent in Canterlot…is…”

The crowd remained silent as the host waited a short moment to let it all sink in. Twilight and Courageous stood side by side as they anxiously waited to hear the name of the winner. Spike stood near them and had a feeling it was going to be them, but was still hoping.

The host held up the card and yelled out:

“Spike the Dragon!!!!”

Spike was in complete shock, and could not believe what he was hearing…as the many ponies, including the judges, cheered for the little dragon, who was also the winner of Ponyville.

He had a few tears in his eyes, and thanked everypony for making it possible. He was now a star and was going to perform in Canterlot the following day. This was a big moment for him and he enjoyed every second of it.

“I can’t believe Spike won…” Twilight said in shock, “…Then again, I am happy for him.”

Courageous smiled and hugged her close, “I am happy you are taking it well. Honestly, I also was surprised he won instead of us…but I guess it is because he showed more bravery out there today.”

She smiled and nodded, “He sure did. Spike taught me an important lesson today too.”

“Really?”

“Yes. It times like these, it is important to do your best and be brave when showing your talents in front of others,” Twilight explained, “What is also important is that you should never let what others think of you bring you down. No matter how they may judge you, you should always be strong and give it your all…for it may carry you far and to victory.”

Courageous was proud of his marefriend was accepting second place, and discovering a new lesson on friendship in the process. He hugged her and kissed her cheek, to which she did the same.

The audience continued to cheer for the little dragon and were looking forward to seeing him perform in Canterlot with the other four winners of Equestria. Twilight, Courageous, and the rest of the girls came out onto the stage to congratulate him. Spike was in tears and so happy to have his family and friends there for him, as he enjoyed all the applause and praise the many ponies and more were giving him below. This was a special day for him…and tomorrow would be even grander.
The Equestria Extravaganza has arrived in Ponyville, and many ponies and more are willing to participate in the auditions for the chance to win the grand prize: Performing their talents in Canterlot. Twilight Sparkle, and many of her friends, are anxious to do their best to win at this grand opportunity. Who will win? Find out!
